Volunteers play a critical role in achieving the Benefits in Action mission. Our team includes VISTA members, SHIP (Medicare) volunteers, volunteers from Boomers Leading Change, and a network of other talented and passionate individuals.

We constantly welcome new volunteers interested in learning more about healthcare resources and excited to serve their community. We currently have opportunities in the following areas:

Navigators assist clients by answering questions and enrolling them in healthcare and social programs for which they qualify. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided.

Information and Referrals:

If you are interested in gaining a better understanding of the services offered and forms of insurance accepted by the medical practices in our community, you might be great for making client referrals. In this role you connect clients with preventive or primary care resources after enrollment in an insurance plan.

This front line role is the first contact community members have with Benefits in Action and is the most important in our organization. Attention to detail and a welcoming personality is required for this volunteer. If you love to work with people, have experience with Microsoft Office products, can multi-task, and enjoy problem solving, this is the place for you!

Benefits in Action aims to become the recognized name for health- related benefit enrollment in the metro Denver area and recognize the importance of effective marketing in achieving this goal. Marketing volunteers will research advertising groups and news outlets we can work with and will assist in Facebook design and promotion, website upkeep, and event promotion.

Food Delivery:

Volunteers in our food delivery program pick up food from local food pantries and then deliver boxes of non-perishable and fresh foods to individual households in the metro Denver area. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and be able to lift and carry 20 pounds and climb stairs for this position.

To effectively access healthcare resources, community members must be aware of the organizations available to them and services they provide. We strive to make these resources better understood by holding education sessions within our community. In volunteering at these events, you will have the opportunity to teach people about Medicare and Medicaid services and the many benefits they provide.

Community Outreach:

Conduct outreach to locate clients in need of services. Volunteers in this position meet with leaders at other nearby organizations to discuss our mission and seek to increase the number of client referrals received. Outgoing and friendly personalities are a must, and no prior healthcare knowledge is required.

As a fundraising volunteer, you work with a team to research, evaluate, and establish possible funding sources and initiatives, contact potential donors, and plan fundraising events. Opportunities are available to learn about grant writing and collaboration between non-profits. If you have experience, we need you! No previous experience is required.

Data Entry and Analysis:

To improve our services and satisfy our funders, we are collecting client feedback in the form of online and/or paper surveys. Volunteers input this data into our database to facilitate easier analysis. Additionally, our database requires constant updating and data retrieval. Other data entry projects include tracking the number of clients being seen, where referrals are coming from, and the attendance numbers at our health education classes. Basic computer literacy is required, particularly the use of Microsoft Office products.

Volunteer callers are needed for a variety of programs and office support, whether its calling individuals who have requested food boxes to let them know delivery dates and times, reminding clients of appointments, following up with clients to see if they have received the benefits which we assisted them with, or making Connectedness Calls.
