Volunteer

Volunteers play a critical role in achieving the Benefits in Action mission. Our team includes Americorps Encore and VISTA members, SHIP volunteers, and a network of other talented and passionate individuals.

We constantly welcome new volunteers interested in learning more about healthcare resources and excited to serve their community. We are currently have opportunities in the following areas:

Fundraising:

In order to keep our services free, Benefits in Action depends on the generosity of foundations and local individual donors! As a fundraising volunteer, you work with a team to establish possible funding sources and initiatives, contact potential donors, and plan fundraising events. Opportunities are available to learn about grant writing and collaboration between non-profits. No previous experience is required.

Marketing:

In a world so strongly connected by social media, Benefits in Action is increasing our presence online. Marketing volunteers assist in Facebook design and promotion, website upkeep, and event promotion. Experience using social media or graphic design would be valuable but is not a necessity.

Education:

To effectively access healthcare resources, community members must be aware of the organizations available to them and services they provide. At Benefits in Action, we strive to make these resources better understood by holding education sessions within our community. In volunteering at these events, you will have the opportunity to teach people about Medicare and Medicaid services and the many benefits they provide.

Outreach:

Conduct outreach to locate clients in need of services. Volunteers in this position meet with leaders at other nearby organizations to discuss our mission and seek to increase the number of client referrals received. Outgoing and friendly personalities are a must, but no prior healthcare knowledge is required.

Data Entry:

In an effort to improve our services, we are collecting client feedback in the form of paper surveys. Volunteers input this data into spreadsheets to facilitate easier analysis. Other data entry projects include tracking the number of clients being seen, where referrals are coming from, and the attendance numbers at our health education classes. Basic computer literacy is required.

Navigator:

Do you believe in the importance of empowering individuals to understand and fully utilize the health related benefits they qualify for? As a navigator you assist beneficiaries through answering questions and enrolling them in Medicaid, Medicare, or Connect for Health. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided.

Referrals:

If you are interested in gaining a better understanding of the services offered and forms of insurance accepted by the medical practices in our community, you might be great for making client referrals. In this role you connect clients with preventive or primary care resources after we had helped them enroll in an insurance plan.
