What are Social Security Benefits?
Social Security benefits provide cash assistance through the Social Security Administration (SSA), which is money that can be spent on living costs with no parameters. Benefits in Action can help you with the following:
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
For people who meet the following guidelines:

Unable to work due to a physical or mental disability

Age: 18 - 66

Earned 20 work credits* in the last 10 years

Less than $1,690 per month of gross income
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
For people who meet the following guidelines:

Have low income/low assets

Age: 65+
OR
-
Are disabled
Social Security Retirement (SSR)
For people who meet the following guidelines:

Age: 62+

Earned 40 work credits*
*In 2026, 1 credit is equal to about $1,890 earned and paid taxes to Social Security. You are limited to 4 credits per year.

DO I QUALIFY?
What Should I Know?
Individuals qualify for SSI or SSDI if they have a disabling condition expected to last more than a year with either sufficient work credits or low income and assets. You must be disabled, generally earning less than $1,690 in gross monthly income, and either have sufficient work credits or less than $2,000 in assets and resources.
