SNAP Eligibility Changes for Lawfully Present Immigrants Effective May 1, 2026

Beginning May 1, 2026, changes under the new federal law, H.R.1, will impact SNAP eligibility for many lawfully present immigrants, including some refugees, asylees, and parolees. As a result, many individuals and families who currently receive SNAP benefits may no longer qualify.


The Colorado SNAP program team will notify affected individuals directly regarding any changes to their benefits. Eligibility for U.S. citizens, including naturalized citizens, remains unchanged, and SNAP income eligibility requirements have not changed.

  • Dial 2-1-1 or use the Food Resource Map to find food assistance near you.

  • Visit local food pantries, food banks, and community organizations for additional support.

  • If you believe your benefits were terminated incorrectly, contact your county human services office.
